研究実績の概要 |
I completed two peer-reviewed articles on the kakenhi research topic for publication in UK journals: one appeared in the Charles Lamb Bulletin in summer 2021, and the second is forthcoming in the journal Romanticism. I continued to revise and resubmit one essay on the kakenhi topic, about William Wordsworth and William Rowan Hamilton. In September 2021 I researched and wrote one new essay on Coleridge related to the kakenhi topic that will be published either in a peer-reviewed journal or as a book chapter in the monograph described below. I presented part of this essay as a lecture at Clare Hall, Cambridge in October 2021. In October 2021 I also participated in the Japan Writers Conference with a lecture related to the kakenhi research topic: 'The Magic Inverse' on magic in contemporary English poetry. During the same conference I also participated in a book launch for my third poetry monograph.
Within my university, I published an article in December 2021 which draws on my kakenhi research on the relationship between humanities and the history of science. Also within my university, from December 2021 to March 2022 I gave a series of four lectures based on my kakenhi research to prospective undergraduate students at ICU. Each lecture was based on kakenhi research for one chapter of a monograph of poetry criticism. From March to May 2022 I completed a book proposal for a monograph of poetry criticism to be submitted to the publisher Routledge UK in June 2022.
Finally, I completed and published a third poetry monograph with subject matter related to the kakenhi project.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
The COVID-19 pandemic continued to cause some disruption to the kakenhi research. Specifically, it prevented the principal investigator from undertaking any fieldwork outside Japan from April 2021 to September 2021. After September 2021 fieldwork could proceed at UK research libraries; however, no research plans based on research in continental Europe (France, Germany, and Italy) could be completed. Nevertheless, the principal investigator has been able to continue research in two UK research libraries. The principal researcher could participate in conferences and give 7 lectures and workshops via Zoom.
The principal investigator could make good progress on research and writing. Research has been completed for four of the seven book chapters of the current kakenhi project, on representations of magic and the virtuoso in Shakespeare and Webster, Wordsworth, Coleridge, and W. B. Yeats.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
From September 2021 to April 2022 I was on research leave and held the position of visiting scholar at the Faculty of English, Cambridge University. While at Cambridge I used the Cambridge University Library and its online resources to complete a substantial amount of kakenhi research, reading, and writing. From April 2022 to August 2022 I will conclude my research in Cambridge while in residence at the college of Clare Hall, Cambridge. From September 2022 to March 2023, I plan to complete some of the research travel proposed but not completed during the 2021 year, including one brief research trip to the UK in February 2023.
In autumn 2022 I hope to secure a publication contract for the critical monograph that was researched and written during research leave. By the end of 2022 I hope to have completed one or two chapters of this monograph and submitted them to the editor. By the end of 2022 I also plan to have completed a fourth poetry monograph related to the research topic, and submitted a first draft to my editor in Tokyo.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The proposed research budget for 2020-2021 was not used due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting inability to conduct overseas research and attend international conferences. The principal investigator will therefore undertake additional travel for research and conferences in 2021-2022.
