My research into the way in which French theater of the revolutionary period represents on stage one of the major political events of the period, the formation of assemblies invested with legislative power and charged with welcoming political debate in all its plurality, made substantial progress in 2023. The most important event was my participation in the International Congress of Enlightenment Studies (Sapienza University, Rome, Italy), as part of a symposium devoted to the presence of Greek and Roman antiquity in the 18th century, organized by scholars of Sorbonne University (Paris, France). I presented a paper that will be published in the next issue of the Italian Journal of French Studies (RIEF), due out in November 2024, under the title “Representing representation: the assemblies of Antiquity, mirrors of the Revolution on stage”. In parallel, I have pursued a project to publish a collective work, which I am coordinating with Professor Sumi Yoichi (Keio University, Tokyo). I am the author of two of the book's ten chapters, and co-author of the introduction with Professor Sumi. We are currently in the process of proofreading all the contributions, and publication is scheduled for autumn 2024. My activities in 2023 also resulted in an article published in the journal Gallia, n°63, and a 3-week trip to France in February-March, which enabled me to strengthen my ties with specialists in 18th-century French theater (Sorbonne University, ENS Lyon, and University of Lyon 2).
