研究実績の概要 |
The university medical school supplied 108 medical case reports to the research team. Three of these reports were analyzed from a discourse perspective to gain an understanding of the purpose and structure of a case report. All 108 reports were then analyzed using corpus analysis software. The results of the analysis indicate that the structure and length of medical case reports make them well-suited for use in medical English courses. They usually consist of three main sections (introduction; case presentation; discussion) and important text-structuring phrases can be identified in each section. Towards the end of 2020 , the results of the analysis were used to plan the development of courses in 2021 so that medical practitioners and students can benefit from the results of the research.

理由
Most of 2020 was spent placing pedagogic materials online for students due to Covid 19. In relation to medical English, new Bb9 courses were developed to ensure that the medical English curriculum could be developed online. Although this slightly delayed the research in 2020, it presents the research team with the opportunity to add extra pedagogic materials relating to medical cases.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the first six months of the 2021 academic year, an online course will be designed and developed on Bb9 that can be used for self-study or as part of a flipped learning course. It will focus on reading skills and learning useful text-structuring devices. Also, a trial course will be used to explore whether students and researchers can benefit from developing corpus-analysis skills in writing about case reports and case presentations. In the second part of the year, some materials will be added to other Bb9 medical English courses.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the problems of Covid 19, the research team was not able to travel overseas, so that funds originally allocated to travel were not used. To compensate for this problem, the focus of the research has been on medical English communication in the form of case reports and presentations, and some of the funds will now be spent on hardware that can be used for poster presentations on medical cases and case reports. There will also be travel costs if the Covid 19 situation improves.
