The research continued until the mid-phase with only part of the mid-phase results data being collected. The Covid19 pandemic meant all research was halted in February 2020. This meant access to the cohorts and data was paused. No intervention data could be collected. I am still waiting to ascertain how much of the data collected to date is useable. All effort was directed to delivering quality online EMI courses in Japan, including writing textbooks and creating multimedia resources for EMI courses. One textbook was published in 2021 by Modular Press. Effort toward commencing the research in 2021 Fall semester at a Japanese University was completed. Papers on education were published in 2020 and 2021. No research funds were used in 2020 due to the Covid restrictions.

理由
The Covid19 pandemic terminated access to cohorts under study. This restriction remains in place. Therefore, the research will move to Phase 3 as outlined in the initial proposal and a study will be conducted in a Japanese university in Fall 2021. A plan to commence the study in Spring 2021 at a Japanese university was established; however, the head of the academic affairs committee at the institution refused to allow the teacher of the course to be flexible to student needs, so no implementation was possible. It has been deferred until Fall 2021 in an EMI course at another university. The research should therefore be completed within the three years, although publication of all the data will be into 2022/2023 period.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Given the unforeseen constraints from Covid19, the initial research has been temporarily paused. Once access is available in 2021/2022, I will return to collaborating with Thai colleagues and complete the data collection process. I am continuing to communicate with the Thai colleagues to access the final data. Due to the Covid19 situation in Thailand and Japan, access to said data reamins on hold. Therefore, I will move to the Y3 plan and implement the study in an EMI course at a Japanese university from October 2021. As outlined in the initial proposal, pre-course data will be collected, including L2 proficiency scores and knowledge of the EMI content. The number of cohorts will not be known until late September. Mid semester assessment data will be collected (multi-choice and essay protocols), and a exit proficiency data will also be collected and compared to pre-course and mid-course results. I will also submit a proposal to AIEC 2021 to discuss the emerging opportunities and pedogogical implications.
