| 研究実績の概要 |
The plan for 2020 was seriously limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. The main objectives were to (1) improve peer-model materials (PMMs), (2) further explore PMM pedagogy, (3) improve interactional data collection, (4) initiate the analyses of data, and (5) disseminate results. Since the course under study was online in 2020, (1) materials and (2) pedagogical development and (3) data collection could not be accomplished. However, some progress was made in (4) preliminary analyses of interactional data and (5) disseminating results using 2019 data. The materials developed and data collected in 2019 contributed to two presentations at academic conferences, JALT2020 (online) and CAN-Asia2021 (online), the latter with a related publication in the CAN-Asia2021 academic journal.

理由
Further organization and analyses of 2019 data in preparation for the JALT2020 and CAN-Asia2021 conferences, resulted in further insights including an increased understanding of (1) the effect of interlocutor roles in sharing analyses of participants' own L2 interaction (JALT2021) and (2) how participants' are able to display multimodal analytical skills in the 3 communicative modes: vocal, nonvocal, and material (CAN-Asia2021). These findings will contribute to the redesign and implementation of peer-model materials in 2022. Because of the persistent effect of COVID-19, the course under study will again be online for 2021. Data collection will resume in 2022, requiring a one-year extension to the study.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
After considering further insights from the 2019 data, a redesign of peer model materials and informed pedagogy will again be implemented for on-demand courses in 2020. Though the development of materials and pedagogy can continue, including a closer examination of how improvements to role-model materials impact participants' development of multimodal understanding and analytical skills, and how multiple iterations of recursive practice contributes to this development, unfortunately, interactional data cannot be collected in 2021 due to COVID-19. The project will continue as planned through 2022.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The reason for the surplus of funding was due to a reduced amount spent on research assistants' wages and related equipment due to the effect of COVID-19. Funding for 2020 will be spent on computer acquisitions for data organization and analyses and potential research assistant work later in the year.
