This research details the nature, characteristics, role, and usage of political symbols, and the sources used to describe these symbols, in Japan. It assesses the way and extent Japanese politicians and subject matters employ these symbols to address pending issues to public constituencies in ways that are supportive of their projects or goals, focusing mostly on analyzing political debates in broadcast political interviews programs. Data was gathered during 2019-2020 from 125 interviews with politicians and nonpoliticians as they broadcasted in four national television programs: Puraimu Nyusu (45 interviews), Shin Hodo 2001 (36 interviews), Gekiron Kurosufaiya (22 interviews) and Nichiyo toron (22 interviews). Based on a methodology used in my previous research in Japan, three coding sheets were devised for analyzing the structure and verbal content of the interviews--for interviewers' questions and interviewees' responses, and the third for analyzing the sources at the center of the interviewees' responses.
During 2022 the above data was analyzed and results were published in one book, one book' chapter, and during an international conference of an academic society.
