The Journal of Labor Economics has accepted our paper. We find that physician-patients use less surgery, radiation, or checkups but more targeted therapy and drugs; enjoy a higher survival and spend less on coinsurance. Knowledge mechanisms play a role because the network effect explains some, but not all, patterns. For less informed physician-patients, possessing a network is equivalent to reducing knowledge. Our paper has been recognized by the IZA (the Institute of Labor Economics) working paper series, which is a high-quality research network. In addition, we presented this work to the 2020 American Economic Association annual meeting in San Diego and a virtual meeting in the Applied Economic Workshop. Furthermore, Melbourne institute invited us to present in a virtual seminar in 2021. Because of this work, we started several new international collaborations: with Dr. Jennjou Chen on a new research project on health economics; (2) with Dr. Emily Chang on health and environmental economics; (3) with a graduate student Eva Chi at National Taiwan University on labor economics. We are planning to apply for research grants such as Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation and Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology.
