研究実績の概要 |
In FY 2021, we carried out two research trips to Aichi and Kyoto prefectures in June and December, to follow-up with farmers and dispatchers on the farm situations during COVID-19. We interviewed community organizations and carried out one Zoom stakeholder interview (Aichi) and one Zoom researcher interview. We attended one online explanatory session about SSW and the construction industry in July. Roberts interviewed a construction industry organization in July as well as two construction firms that hire foreign workers in October. We also interviewed officials at MAFF in December. We had 18 interviews transcribed. We made two invited presentations on our research for online international seminars at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich on 7 June and Australian National University on 15 September, 2021. We presented our research results at the Annual conference of the Association for Asian Studies, Honolulu, HI, on 26 March, 2022. Furthermore, we were invited by Dr. Michael Strausz of Texas Christian University to contribute a chapter to his edited volume, "The Past and Future of Immigration in Japan." Our chapter, "Foreign Labor without Foreign Residents: Foreign Agricultural Labor in Japan," was accepted in this book and Dr. Strausz has submitted the book to the University of Hawaii Press, where it is in the publication process now. We are in the process of writing a second piece from our conference presentation at the AAS in 2022. We will submit this as a refereed journal article by July's end.
