| 研究実績の概要 |
During fiscal 2020, the research concentrated on the Proboscia species in Eocene marine sediments. In particular, the species in the 51 samples from 13 Oamaru outcrop locations (late Eocene). In addition, surveys were also carried out on Barbados (middle Eocene) and Mors (early Eocene) outcrop materials. The results of the latter are important as previous workers already described a number of Rhizosolenia spp., which possessed probosces, and so these taxa require transfer to Proboscia. These Eocene taxa are often characterised by serrated ridges on the probosces, although non-ridged forms also exist.
In addition, routine work on recent material revealed the presence of a new species from the subarctic Pacific.

理由
During fiscal 2020, numerous Eocene samples were investigated, which revealed the presence of more than 10 species - some of these require transferring to Proboscia, while others are new to science. Most of the species represent the old ridge-bearing lineage but during the Eocene some new lineages start to appear. Since many LM and SEM photographs were taken, the best of these will be incorporated into the image database.
The new species from the subarctic Pacific was described and published.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
During fiscal 2021, the research will focus on the remaining materials from the Cretaceous, Paleocene, Oligocene and Pliocene. Preliminary surveys of these have already been carried out and the samples look promising. New DSDP and ODP samples were also acquired recently.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the ongoing covid19 problem, I was unable to use my travel funds for both domestic and foreign trips. So I have requested that this money be carried over to 2021.
