研究実績の概要 |
Under this project, we have successfully constructed a database consisting of exposure information on desert dust for Japan, as well as three other locations in Beijing, Seoul, and Taiwan, using the European Union reference method for desert dust quantification. Additionally, we have completed an epidemiological study analyzing the short-term association of desert dust and local air particulate matter (PM) with daily mortality. The findings from this study have been presented at both local and international academic conferences and annual meetings, and the manuscript is expected to be published in near future. Furthermore, several journal publications related to the current topic have also been released in the final year of the project. The completed work has enabled us to better understand the independent health impacts of desert dust, in addition to local PM pollution. This project has also facilitated collaboration with international researchers and organizations, particularly exposure scientists interested in improving the identification and quantification of desert dust exposure in areas affected by dry deserts worldwide. Currently, there are plans to expand this multi-disciplinary research globally, utilizing newer ensemble-based indicators for desert dust to gain a better understanding of the global health burden related to desert dust exposure.
