研究実績の概要 |
This project investigates 3 types of Japanese commons/commoners (fisheries-forestry-urban) to uncover how commons can be re-imagined.COVID-19 did affect planned research activities. Nevertheless, we: 1. Gave invited KEYNOTES: Drs. Mitsumata and Delaney were 2 of 3 invited keynote speakers at KYOTO 2020: IASC-RIHN ONLINE WORKSHOP ON COMMONS, POST-DEVELOPMENT AND DEGROWTH IN ASIA. Dr. Delaney gave 2 other Keynote speeches for UNESCO-ICH and the IASC. 2. Conducted Fieldwork: Some, limited fieldwork activities did take place: Dr. Delaney attended activities of around the Matsushima Bay. 3. Publication activities: The consortium has also met multiple times online and spent significant time working on an edited volume on "Revivals of the Commons" with international Collaborator Dr. Margaret McKean.

3: やや遅れている
理由
COVID19 has had an impact on research activities in the last research year. Though Miyagi Prefecture and Tohoku have not been hit as hard as the other regions of Japan, Dr. Delaney was outside of Japan at the start of the pandemic for an international conference. Consequently, she was locked out of the country by the Japanese government and could not return for 6 months. Upon her return, she was able to conduct some limited fieldwork in Miyagi Prefecture. Drs. Mitsumata, Saito and Yamashita live and work in areas with higher COVID 19 infections and consequently their activities were more limited.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Plans for Year 3 of the research follows our original project proposal. The next steps include: 1.Conducting fieldwork as possible, to make up for 2020; 2. Presenting at international Conferences; 3.Holding quarterly meetings and a(n online) project meeting with our international member where we will discuss our comparative cases and plan the co-edited book. Given the new coronvirus situation, it is difficult to say how fieldwork plans will be impacted. Fieldwork was planned until Month 28, so it will need to go beyond this. Year 3 will include continuing fieldwork, participating in the international IASC meetings, conducting the research synthesis, and completing the co-edited book volume. Individual articles are also planned.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The COVID19 pandemic impacted our planned activities: fieldwork travel was greatly reduced; our workshop with our international collaborator was held on-line rather than in-person.
We will thus conduct more fieldwork than originally planned in 2021 and our international workshop will be moved to the winter 2021-2022 when we hope the Japanese government will allow our international collaborator into Japan(they are already vaccinated against COVID19)
