| 研究実績の概要 |
Research achievements for the 2020 academic year (FY2020: April 2020 to March 2021) can be summarized as follows:
Two articles based on research carried out in FY2019 were sent out for peer review in FY2020. One has been provisionally accepted for publication pending final editorial board approval. The other, as a result of coronavirus-related delays, is still under review.
In addition, three project-related online conference presentations are confirmed for this year. The aim is to turn these presentations into peer-reviewed research publications within the project timeframe.

理由
The pandemic has significantly impacted research progress. The delays can be broken down into two categories outlined in the grant application: 1) data collection; and 2) analysis, writing up.
1.Planned research and data collection in the National Library of Ireland and the British Library in FY2020 and FY2021 has been postponed (see §8 below).
2.In addition to new research being prevented, the peer-review process has also been severely delayed, in one case by several months (see §5 above). The increased burden of the move to online teaching has also contributed to delays in this category.
While the delays in these categories have been severe, other areas such as consulting research publications and online databases (esp. newspaper archives) have progressed according to expectations.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
At the time of writing, it seems probable that all research trips abroad for data collection will have to be postponed again until FY2022 (or possibly the end of FY2021 at the earliest). On the basis of this assumption, the following is a tentative research plan for FY2021-22 and immediately after.
FY2021 (Q1-2): Online Conference Presentations (international and national)
FY2021 (Q3-4): Online Conference Presentation (national); possible research trip (February-March)
FY2022 (Q1-2): Conference Presentations (international and national); possible research trip (August-September)
FY2022 (Q3-4): Conference Presentations (international and national); possible research trip (February-March)
FY2023: post-project analysis and writing up: preparing project-based research papers and monograph.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The outstanding amount will be added to the fund for research trips (if possible) and scientific publications in the next fiscal year. There have been no significant changes to the status of grant in the past fiscal year, apart from inevitable delays to planned research trips and presenting research findings owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
