| 研究実績の概要 |
In FY 2020-2021, the work conducted this year was mainly focused on two areas. First, the P.I. and the research collaborator worked to make improvements on the article titled "Students' Perceptions on Blended Learning in Foreign Language Acquisition in Japan," specifically in the quantitative research analysis and subsequent discussion of results. A first draft of this article presented descriptive statistics. We found that there was a need to incorporate a more rigorous analysis and therefore conducted inferential statistics (chi-square tests and logistic regression) to determine the effect that a number of independent and co-dependent variables had on our dependent variables. This method brought to use the Stata software that we had acquired the previous FY. We have at this point completed this second iteration of the journal article and will send it for revision in the coming days. Moreover, the P.I. gave a presentation titled "Global Jinzai” and the Role of Universities in Japan" at the Japan Association of Comparative Culture (Doshisha University) to understand the current situation of employment surrounding university students in Japan. This study examines the educational practices of Japanese universities to develop global jinzai, and the related issues that Japanese educational institutions, including universities, should address.

Given the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, it was not possible to advance in the second part of our survey study, as it was the plan for this FY. We have not yet organized the participating universities or groups of students because of the uncertainty of the last year.

In FY 2020-2021, we have re-defined the timeline of the research project as follows:April-May 2021: Finalizing iteration journal article/ Journal article submission for revision, June-August 2021: 1. Organization of participating universities and class groups/ First communication with language professors/ Revision design of survey questionnaire (Japan and Spain), September - October 2021: 1. Distribution of survey questionnaire in Spain, October- November 2021: Distribution of survey questionnaire in Japan, December 2021-January 2022: 1. Revision of data collected and follow up/2. Statistical analysis of survey data, February-March 2022: 1. Research results and write up of Journal Article (2)/ 2. Publication of results/ 3. Organization of conference/workshop/presentation (to be held in April 2022)

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
There is a total incurring amount of 1,099,841 yen. Given the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, it was not possible to advance in the second part of our survey study, as it was the plan for this FY.
Below is how I intend to invest to make further advances in my investigation:
First, I will focus my efforts in the second survey study to be conducted in both Japan and Spain, in coordination with Dr. Prats and her contacts in the United States. Second, I will finalize two journal articles and submit them with Dr. Prats. Third, I will work to conduct the second questionnaire in Japan and in Spain. Fourth, I will work on the data analysis from both of the first and the second questionnaires. Finally, I will be preparing journal articles to be published in the winter with the results of the study.
