| 研究実績の概要 |
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the researcher was able to collect weekly journal data from seven student participants, who were studying in ASEAN from late 2019 to early 2020. After completing 12 weeks of journaling, participants completed a final reflective survey in mid-2020. Finally, virtual interviews began via Zoom in March 2021. The researcher began analyzing this data using Survey Monkey and MAXQDA. Also in FY2020, the researcher published an article on the pilot study he conducted in FY2019. The article is titled "Japanese University Student Experiences with Internships in Southeast Asia" and it is found in the December 2020 edition of The Journal of Worldwide Education. Finally, the researcher presented these results at the online JALT 2020 event.

理由
FY2020 was supposed to be the second and final year of this project; however, it has been extended for a year due to COVID-19, and the fact that Japanese university students are unable to study overseas. The researcher was able to obtain a minimum amount of data to complete the project in FY2020, though there is hope that more data can be obtained, if Japanese students are permitted to study overseas again in FY2021. Other than this obvious delay, everything else is going smoothly.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
This third and final year of the project will involve processing and analysis of all the qualitative data from the seven student participants via MAXQDA. This step will represent the final stage if the mixed methods design. After the analysis has been completed, the researcher plans to disseminate his findings at the online 2021 LPP Conference (Montreal), as well as other domestic and international conferences that correspond to the research themes. The researcher also plans to publish the results of the study in an international journal on international education. Since it would be ideal to collect more data from Japanese students who choose to study abroad in ASEAN, I will keep the option open to extend data collection if students are permitted to travel to and study in ASEAN.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The research budget was not able to be fully used in FY2020 due to the COVID19 pandemic and the fact that students were unable to study abroad, which disrupted data collection. In FY2021, incurred funds will primarily be used for remuneration / awards for the research participants, as well as for time given by the translator, and the research collaborator. Also, funds may include costs for conferences, as well as any fees incurred through publishing in international journals. Finally, if it becomes possible to collect more data from students overseas, I hope to allocate funds accordingly.
