研究実績の概要 |
Despite complications with the COVID-19 pandemic, the researcher was able to progress with qualitative data analysis, write a final paper, and disseminate findings via two online conferences in FY2021. In terms of data analysis, MAXQDA was used to carry out coding and identifying clusters of meaning with the complete data of six participants in this study. These codes and clusters were cross-checked by Dr. Robinson Fritz at Nagasaki University for intercoder agreement. With the findings, the researcher has begun writing a paper to be published this year (FY2022) that will explore the experiences of Japanese University students in Bangkok through a phenomenological lens. The researcher also presented findings at the LPP conference (August 2021) and the RELC conference (March 2022).

理由
Due to the nature of this project - on the study abroad experience in SouthEast Asia - only a limited amount of qualitative data was able to be collected. However, this data has proven to be adequate in addressing the project goal of learning more about the study abroad experience in SE Asia and the implications of these experiences on promotion and student preparation. With this, I am currently writing an academic paper for publication and looking for international events where I can disseminate my findings.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In FY2022, I will publish at least one article on the qualitative phenomenological aspects of this study. Based on my results and implications, I will also present at multiple domestic and international conferences. These events may include IALIC in Lisbon (September), JALT 2022 in Fukuoka (November), the Conference of ELF in Tainan (November), and CamTESOL in Phnom Penh (February). While the quantitative data collected during my first year no longer apply to the qualitative results, I still hope to produce a paper on these quantitative findings. Since this will probably be the fourth and final year of the project, I will maximize my opportunities to disseminate my findings, which have been satisfactorily robust and conclusive, despite complications with COVID19.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The researcher was forced to carry over the remaining FY2021 balance into FY2022 due to complications with COVID19, involving a lack of Japanese students studying abroad in SE Asia and limited opportunities to disseminate results at international events. The researcher will use the remaining budget for the following: a Mac Mini and peripherals to facilitate analytical functions; a data hard drive to securely store collected data; literature, including books and articles on phenomenological research and relevant studies; disseminating findings via publication and conferences; and fees and funds needed for both domestic and international travel. The researcher may also require further assistance from a native-speaking Japanese translator and daily research supplies, like pens, paper, etc.
