研究実績の概要 |
Due to the COVID19 situation, I was unable to conduct the Singapore survey as originally planned. Instead, I have resorted to online resources, primarily SNS to keep track of the voluntary sector's service activities for quarantined migrant workers. The implications of COVID19 for the method of service delivery have been significant, as workers are isolated in their dormitories and cannot access the city's inner-city spaces. Therefore, service organizations feel the need to reorganize parts of their services so that this new spatial distance could be bridged. This process will be an important factor to include in this survey. Regarding the Hong Kong survey (conducted in fiscal year 2019), I have published one chapter on the social housing movement in Hong Kong and presented some of the Hong Kong survey results in webinars. The theoretical implications of my work are being published in a book on urban inclusivity, of which I am part of the editing team, and for which I have written the introductory and concluding chapters. I have also contributed one chapter on the Singapore case of this research project. The revised version has been completed and submitted to the referees of Springer. Another result that partially came out this project is my involvement in a webinar series themed "Perspectives on urban inclusivity". In this series, the East Asian urban context of voluntary sector services and their spatial features form a major focus and provide an important platform for comparative approaches.

理由
Due to the COVID19 situation, I was unable to conduct the Singapore survey, and this has significantly delayed the comparative part of this research project. By use of online resources, such as SNS, I am keeping up with the impact of COVID19 on the homeless communities in Hong Kong and the foreign workers communities in Singapore, and their respective implication for the landscape of voluntary sector services. Nevertheless, because of international travel restrictions, it has been difficult to reach out to voluntary sector organizations for survey reasons.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Depending on the COVID19 situation,I will conduct surveys on voluntary services for migrant workers in Singapore, with a explicit focus on the inner-city service hubs of Little India and Geylang. Extensive focus will be put on the precarious living conditions (overcrowding) in worker dormitories and how the voluntary has been able to reach out to the remote areas where they are located. In case international travel continues to be restricted, I will continue to resort to online communication methods. This fiscal year, the postponed East Asian Inclusive Cities Network international conference will be conducted online, in which several voluntary sector organizations of interest are scheduled to join. This will event will provide a crucial opportunity to get in touch with the latest developments in East Asian service hubs. I have several presentations scheduled for this year, mainly in conferences which have been previously postponed (such as RC21).

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to COVID19 I have been unable to travel for my surveys. The incurring amount will set aside to conduct my overseas surveys once international travel restrictions are lifted.
