| 研究実績の概要 |
Health risks made it difficult to resume travel and fieldwork under COVID-19, so I continued to collect secondary data and update the statistical data used in my dissertation chapters so they can be used for this project’s analyses, while also shifting the focus of my work at this stage of the project to reviewing in much more detail, the sociological neoinstitutionalist and relevant globalization literatures that form the theoretical foundations of this project. Establishing a solid theoretical foundation is of great import as the project aims to make a theoretical contribution to the literature.
In line with this endeavor, I published a paper (March 2023) that contrasted World Society Theory and World-Systems Theory and IR constructivism to discuss their variegated yet also mutually supplementary theoretical utilities for research on cultural globalization. Another paper that reviews and analyzes the usage and content of sociological neoinstitutionalist and World Society Theory perspectives within Japanese sociology over time is currently under review. At the upcoming IMISCOE annual conference (July 3-6, 2023 in Warsaw [and online]; submission status: accepted), I will present my most recent research. In August 2022, I also took an online course on Survival (Event History) Analysis - a method I plan to use in this project’s analysis.

理由
Due to the personal health risks and constraints imposed by the pandemic, primary data collection has not been possible for the past years, and I have had to adjust the data (and therefore analysis method) to accommodate the unavailability of new primary data and increased necessity to rely on available secondary data. I have applied to extend the project's funded period by another year (extension granted) in order to move forward in conducting a longitudinal analysis of the secondary data I have.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the upcoming year of this project, if I can complete the gathering of necessary secondary data, I hope to put everything I have achieved over the past years on the project to conduct an analysis of the reasons why humanitarian protections for refuge seekers vary across countries. I will prepare my analysis for publication.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the pandemic, overseas travel to collect data was not possible/feasible, and with the inevitable shift towards secondary data analysis, the funds (originally allocated for travel) were used to purchase necessary books. This is the reason why a small amount of funds remains from the previous year. This remaining amount will be used to purchase additional necessary books during the upcoming one-year extension period of the project.
