研究実績の概要 |
- Construction of country-level social indicators database has been completed. Based on this database and the application of state-the-art machine learning methods, a paper has been written and published in an open-access international journal. - To study patterns of convergence and divergence in economic productivity, country-level, region-level and industry-level productivity datasets have been compiled from different sources. - Convergence and clustering analyses have been carried out using country-level, region-level and industry-level productivity datasets. - Overall, 4 papers have been published, 5 working papers are currently under peer-review or revise-and-resubmit status, and the results have been presented at 5 (domestic and international) conferences.

理由
According to the implementation plan for FY2019, database construction and analysis of social indicators were indicated as the main research outcomes of FY2019. The availability of new databases about economic productivity provided an opportunity to carry out some of the analyses that were originally planed for FY2020. Analyses of productivity convergence have been successfully implemented and results have been written, presented at both domestic and international conferences, and published in international journals.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
- The analysis of social inequality will be extended. In particular, I will take advance of a new world-wide database that measures social development at the regional level. Thus, the analysis of social inequality will be more comprehensive, as it will include both a macro and a meso (regional) perspectives. - The analysis of economic inequality and convergence will also be extended, I will take advance of a new world-wide database that measures economic inequality at the regional level using satellite-based night-light data. Thus, the analysis of economic inequality will be more comprehensive, as it will include both a macro and a meso (regional) perspectives.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Working with world-wide regional databases requires a considerable amount of data processing. Research funds will be allocated to pay for research assistance, computer equipment, and software for statistical analysis. In addition, funds are needed to disseminate research results in domestic and international conferences. Finally, data and code for processing the data will be publicly available through an interactive web application. Funds are needed to pay for the online server and computer run-time.
