研究実績の概要 |
During this first year of investigation, I mostly focused on the development of the Chinese new energy vehicles market, the largest market in the world, with specific industrial policies, a great variety of car and battery makers, and a specific historical developmental trajectory. The main results show that the Chinese national and local government subsidies helped develop the industry, while creating an artificial market. Indeed, it created a mismatch between the supply and demand of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

理由
I was able to have an extensive literature review about the political, technical, social and economic issues related to the development of NEV markets, and I had a fieldwork in China in August-September 2019, visiting more than ten Chinese battery and electric car makers in the Guangdong Province (the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region and the Huizhou City). I could then understand the structural role of local governments in supporting the development of such industrial clusters, especially in regards to the high growth of the electronic-related industries in Shenzhen city. However, I planned to have a fieldwork in one or two other regions in China in March 2020 (to compare the local industrial policies), but due to the spread of the COVID-19, I had to change my initial plans.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Currently, with the uncertain contagion of the COVID-19, it is difficult to plan in-depths fieldtrips in East Asia. I began using a statistical approach to grasp the development of this industry in East Asia. I am currently gathering information about the overall supply chain (from raw materials like cobalt, lithium, etc.) to the final assembly of the batteries to examine the specificity of this global value chain, and its limits. I will mostly investigate 3 other core parameters to give birth to more sustainable transport systems: 1. the forecast of supply reserves of some raw materials (I will use several databases to build several scenarios) 2. the household expenditures and the social acceptability of electric vehicles 3. the role of past transport systems (especially the oil industry)

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In a period of uncertainty, It is difficult to plan overseas travel to lead field work. That is the reason why, I could not go to China and South Korea in March 2020, and several international colloquiums I plan to attend from April 2020 on are cancelled. That is the reason why, I mostly intend to buy several databases, books, a computer in order to have statistical treatments in my research field.
