研究実績の概要 |
We have now completed obtaining observational data for the CLAMATO survey as of January 2020. The data has now been reduced, and we are now carrying a range of scientific analyses on the data with the goal of writing multiple papers. With Benjamin Horowitz (Princeton) we have applied the cosmic web reconstruction technique of Horowitz, Lee et al 2019 to the data and now have the first large-scale cosmic web map at z>2. This is now enabling us to study the trend of galaxy properties as a function of cosmic web environment (i.e. void, sheets, filaments, or node). With collaborators in UC Santa Cruz (J. Monzon and J.X. Prochaska), we also published the first ever measurement of the mean flux of the intergalactic medium that is measured from high redshift galaxies.
Together with IPMU PD Metin Ata, we have now completed a 3D dark matter map of the COSMOS field obtained by analyzing the positions and spectroscopic redshifts of the field. This was a complicated task which required careful modeling of the angular and radial selection functions of the different galaxy surveys. This result now allows us to simulate gravitational evolution of galaxy protoclusters down to z=0 in the most detailed analysis of the high redshift protoclusters to-date.
At the same time, we are also planning to publicly release all of our data and are preparing a data release paper to be published in an international journal.

4: 遅れている
理由
The progress has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The collaborators on this project are from all around the world and it has been difficult to maintain the expected speed of progress that was originally anticipated. Nevertheless, we expect to complete several of the papers this year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the summer of 2021, we will publish 3-4 papers based on this grant (all are in draft stage at this time). We have now adjusted to the lack of international travel, and research is now progressing smoothly with remote tools such as Slack and Zoom.
With the CLAMATO IGM map, I am collaborating with Rieko Momose (UTokyo) to analysis the trend of galaxy properties as a function of cosmic web environment. With the 3D dark matter map in COSMOS, we will also combine it with the IGM tomography to study preheating in galaxy protoclusters.
We will also transition to preparing for the Subaru PFS project which will begin at the end of FY2022, which will obtain IGM tomography data over 40x more area coverage than CLAMATO.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to COVID-19 there was no international conferences and we were not allowed to travel or invite visitors, so we have to delay the usage of the grant to FY2021. We expect international conferences etc to begin again in the second half of FY2021 and plan to invite foreign collaborators.
