Reviewed article: Legislation and Environmental Impact Assessment - Characteristics of the Japan Forestry Basic Act. It was found that decision makers in EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) related discussions have the opportunity to refer to Article 2 of the Japanese Forestry Basic Act. Early-stage identification of environmental risks and potential alternatives to planned forestry intervention (EIA Scoping) is a core value of Japanese forest legislation which would add to transparency of the description of the forest project in question.
