研究実績の概要 |
For the first step of my research activities during last financial year, I examined the application of artificial tissue to mitigate the impact force applied to the hands during a forward fall. I introduce a artificial tissue with mechanical characteristics similar to human skin, called dummy skin, as the new type of volar padding for the wrist guards. To test the new proposed wrist guard, we designed a fall experiment inspired by real forward fall and asked subjects to use the bimanual fall arresting strategy. To measure the impact force applied to each hand during the forward fall, two force plates were mounted in front of the subjects. The subjects were instructed to break a fall with bare hands and using a wrist guard with two different conditions on the volar aspect: a) commercial wrist guard with a usual volar splint (curved plastic) and b) application of the same wrist guard, but the volar splint was replaced by artificial tissue. The results showed that, although the traditional wearable protective devices can reduce the peak impact force (11%), the proposed volar padding is superior by a 20% reduction of the peak impact force. The results of this study are applicable in the design of wearable protective devices.

理由
In this study to examine the impact force applied to human hands for different fall conditions, I need to recruit human subjects. Due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID19)and the restrictions imposed by the Nagoya University after the declaration of a state of emergency in Achi prefecture, all experiments were stopped to prevent the spread of the virus. Then I could not finish all my research activities in the last fiscal year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
My future plan for this proposal will be as follows: 1- To Conduct the experiments using human subjects to obtain the impact force applied in human hands during hand impact with a surface with low and high friction (slippery and non-slippery surface) 2- To investigate the pressure distribution on human radius bone which is a common bone injury during forward and lateral falls. To achieve this, I am planning to utilize a human model developed in MADYMO software. MADYMO human models provide a tool set capable of realistic human response prediction for a broad range of loading conditions such as forward fall (Rajaei et al., 2018). 3-To propose a human fall arresting strategy especially during lateral fall using the Bayesian optimization method which is based on the human experimental results.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
To achieve the goals of the research proposal, I need to design several subjective experiments which need devices and tools as well as recruiting human subjects. In addition, I will need to purchase the software licenses in order to perform my human model simulations. To publish the results of the research activities in international journals and presenting them in inter/national conferences need also part of this research budget.
