研究実績の概要 |
Falling over a slippery surface is always dangerous and leads to dames for the upper and lower extremities. I conducted a series of experiments by recruiting subjects to investigate the mechanical parameters that may affect the severity of fracture during a forward fall. At present, analyzing data to obtain the impact force and velocity during an impact as well as the trend of impact force is ongoing. In addition, I examine the application of an artificial tissue to mitigate the impact force applied to the hands during a forward fall. I introduce the artificial tissue with mechanical characteristics similar to human skin as the new type of volar padding for the wrist guards, I designed a fall experiment inspired by real forward fall and asked subjects to use the bimanual fall arresting strategy. To measure the impact force applied to each hand during the forward fall, two force plates were mounted in front of the subjects. They were instructed to break a fall with bare hands and using a wrist guard with two different conditions on the volar aspect: a) commercial wrist guard with a usual volar splint (curved plastic) and b) application of the same wrist guard, but the volar splint was replaced by the artificial tissue. The results showed that, although the traditional wearable protective devices can reduce the peak impact force (11%), the proposed volar padding is superior by 20% reduction of the peak impact force. The outcome of this study is applicable in the design of wearable protective devices.

理由
This study needs to conduct experiments by recruiting subjects and due to Covid19 restrictions at Nagoya University, I started to conduct experiments later than my research plan. Since the experiments could not be completed conducted and data analysis also is ongoing, therefore, I delayed form research plan.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year, conducting experiments and analyzing the experimental data will be completed. From the result of the experiment data, I will apply FEM simulations using MADYMO software to investigate the pressure of force. Using Bayesian optimization, to introduce and investigate appropriate fall arrested strategies for mitigating severity during a fall.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
With this budget, I need to complete the research project, as follows: 1- Paying the cost of conducting experiments, recruiting human subjects, and other miscellaneous related to the research. 2- Purchasing a one-year MADYMO license for FEM models. 3- Paying the Registration fee for attending international and domestic conferences and the cost of publishing research results in journals.
