Metal-organic frameworks offer opportunity for gas separation and particularly CO2 capture. Recent class of fluorinated MOFs (e.g NbOFFIVE-1-Ni) possesses unique properties for low concentration CO2 capture (e.g. from air). The scalability of the sorption-based methods with MOFs is difficult due to material cost. Current research have studied and found the way to use highly selective NbOFFIVE-1-Ni in the gas separation membrane for CO2/N2 separation. It was found that proper combination of MOF and CO2-philic polymers can deliver unique CO2 capture performance from low concentrated streams. As such, main scientific question of the work is answered positively: high CO2 sorption selectivity in NbOFFIVE-1-Ni can be used to craft the separation membrane with high CO2 transport selectivity.
