In this study, I seek a computational model which explains how the human brain derives visual recognition from haptic information. I hypothesize that the discrete fragments of haptics information are integrated into visual imagery at the intraparietal sulcus (IS). Such visual imagery then arrives at the lateral occipital complex (LOC) for visual recognization. I have designed a function Magnetic Response Imaging (fMRI) experiment where participants are engaged in two analogous visual and haptic digit-recognization tasks. The haptic display device was built in-house, using a series of fMRI-compatible pneumatic cylinders for stimulating the participant's palm sequentially. I also developed a linear temporal model for identifying the activated brain regions during experiments.
