Interviews with former tourists stated the popularity of Nordlingen - the supposed filming location of Attack on Titan - among young Japanese people. In particular Japanese students studying German or European language, literature, and culture tend to travel there, when they visit Germany. As there is no official tourist infrastructure related to this series, fans and tourists' activities on social media provide useful information for travelers, which they use to plan their own traveling.
Besides tourism studies, fan studies appear crucial to further understand how this case of transnational contents tourism emerged; for instance, the role of fandom knowledge, hierarchies, and online activities, which Hills (2002: Fan Cultures) or Azuma (2011: Database Animals) have analyzed.
Now, I am penning first results to submit an article for the peer-reviewed “Participations”, an influential and acclaimed online journal of media studies.

理由
The research schedule succedded very smoothly until March. I could conduct more than 10 indepht research interviews and read many articles to better understand the research object and its particularities.
The corona crisis, unfortunately, lead to the cancellation of all interview appointments and a planned excursion to Nordlingen in March 2020. This brought a serious delay for my research schedule, as the next chance for such research activities will be at the end of summer (the corona pandemy is hopefully decreased until then).

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
In August, September 2020, when corona is hopefully disappeared, I will continue interviews with travelers and visit Nordlingen. I will meet several local tourism planners and government officials to hear their toughts about the local contents tourism.
Unfortunately, all academic conferences are postponed right now; thus, there might be no chance to present results this year. I hope that this will be possible in 2021.
In case I can collect sufficient interview data in summer, I will write another peer-reviewed journal article in collaboration with the Australian media tourism scholar Sean Kim, with whom I co-authored another article recently (Film tourism impacts: a multi-stakeholder longitudinal approach; DOI: 10.1080/02508281.2020.1718338).

I hope to be able to conduct this postponed research in late summer, so that the incurred amount will be used then.
