This year I have further explored the themes analyzed the previous year, mainly using Japanese sources (largely unpublished) that I have managed to collect during the last two years. First of all, I analysed the trade activity that the silkworm eggs company Kawajiri-gumi from Akita Prefecture performed in Italy via its branch office in Turin (in the Northwest Italy) between 1880 and 1885, highlighting the great efforts of the president Kawamura Einosuke and of his collaborators to solve the problems relating the silkworm eggs trade between Italy and Japan in 1880s. Then, I examined the diplomatic activities conducted in Italy by the Japanese Minister Plenipotentiary to Italy Nabeshima Naohiro (in office between 1880 and 1882) and by his successor Asano Nagakoto (in office between 1882 and 1884), demonstrating that they played a strategic role in developing Japan-Italy treaty revision relations in line with Foreign Minister Inoue Kaoru’s foreign policy. I have presented the results mentioned above in 3 written contributions published on 3 different academic journals. Furthermore, this year I also analyzed the foreign policy undertaken by the Kingdom of Italy on treaty revision issue at the time of Foreign Minister Inoue Kaoru. This analysis results will be announced in detail at the 16th International Conference of the "EAJS" (European Association for Japanese Studies) at the end of August 2021.
