研究概要

小児の急性脳炎・脳症の病原ウィルス別の臨床像および病態の差異について多面的に研究した。疫学的にはインフルエンザ,HHV-6,ロタウィルスが主なもので、致死率は7.7%と高かった。病態としてHHV-6では、突発性発疹(初感染)に伴う脳障害の機序として、脳内でのウィルスの増殖を認められない「脳症」であることを示した。これら「急性脳症」の治療薬としてチオレドキシン(TRX)の可能性が示唆された。
