本研究では、私が十数年間行なってきた、語彙拡散による英語史上の音韻、形態、統語、意味、語彙変化の研究を、複雑適応体系に内在する基本原理である淘汰、自己組織化、相転位、頑強さ、ネットワークの観点から統合した。(1)動的方言論と複雑適応体系、(2)語義体系とスモールワールドネットワーク、(3)S字曲線を辿る変化、加速的拡大効果及び語の頻度、(4)曖昧性と頑強性という構成のもと統合的に研究を行い、語彙拡散による変化が言語進化の基本的機構であることを論じた。著書Language Evolution and Complex Adaptive Systemとして、Peter Langより2011年出版予定である。
