研究概要

日本で初めての天然ダイヤモンドの実態を理解するため、産地の地殻やマントル由来の捕獲岩を用いて、起源マグマと熱・物質構造の観点から岩石学的な研究を行った。その結果、(1)多量のマグマ生成によるマントルの枯渇と上方へのマグマ供給、(2)シリカに富む流体もしくはメルトによるマントルメタソマティズム、(3)深部由来のアルカリ火山岩マグマとマントルの反応を通じた斑れいノーライトの形成、という複数のマグマ活動が認識でき、西南日本のリソスフェアの構成が大きく変化してきた事実が明らかとなった。(3)は、西南日本全域のアルカリ玄武岩活動と関連づけられる。このマグマの起源深度の解明が日本の天然ダイヤモンドの成因への制約となるだろう。
