研究概要

Ia型超新星は白色矮星が核反応暴走により爆発する現象である。本課題では、(1)Ia型超新星における核反応の理論計算により、宇宙の元素の起源を明らかにし、(2)核反応暴走の始まり方をとらえる手段を提供した。(3)この理論予想をもとに観測データを解析し、爆発のはじまりかたに強い非対称性があることを明らかにし、(4)その非対称性がIa型超新星の多様性の起源であることを証明した。以上は、Ia型超新星を用いた宇宙論研究にも直接的な影響を持ち、関連分野の未解決問題を同時に解決するブレークスルーとなる成果である。
