研究実績の概要 |
Dissolved oxygen loggers and temperature loggers were deployed at 4 locations. Daily photosynthetic photon flux density and wind speeds were also measured continuously at 4 locations. Two locations were at Undaria pinnatifida farms in Hirota Bay, Iwate and Matsushima Bay, Miyagi. Two locations were at natural seaweed ecosystems in Arikawa Bay, Nagasaki.
Our research revealed the potential for seaweed farms to capture carbon has gained interest due to the role of vegetated ecosystems in carbon sequestration. Our study showed that the Undaria pinnatida farm in Matsushima Bay experienced autotrophy more often than natural ecosystems, although for seaweed farms producing U.pinnatifida in Hirota Bay and Cladospihon okamuranus at Bise Point, autotrophy was less frequently observed.
