研究実績の概要 |
1)The surface wave platform based on Bloch surface wave was extended to infrared wavelengths including the fingerprint region of organic materials and the telecommunication wavelengths. 2)A surface wave circuit realizing light steering was designed, fabricated and evaluated. Left and right circularly polarized light is used to control the propagation of the light. The proposed the chiral metasurface realizing light steering is metal free and works at telecommunication wavelengths. These results were published in ACS Photonics. 3)The surface wave platform was applied to biosensing. A guiding slab-based optical biosensor is being investigated has been design with the high sensitivity that can the light transmittance in the output increase 132% with 40 nm biolayer coating. The preliminary experimental results show that the concept of Bloch surface wave guiding slab-based optical biosensor could be applied to detection of thin layer of biomaterials.

理由
1) Realization of the BSW guiding slab-based optical biosensor Using far field and near field electromagnetic simulation to design, and optimize the dimensions of the BSW guiding slab-based optical biosensor. The BSW guiding slab for low-loss and long-propagation-length is realized with optimized geometry design. The light transmittance in the output is increased with the increase of the thickness of the biolayer. The transmittance in the output is increased with the increased of thickness of biolayer in the sensing area (gap between left- and right-side guiding slab). The light transmittance is increased 132% with 40 nm biolayer coating. 2)Experimental demonstration of the sensing performance of BSW guiding slab-based optical biosensor The sensing ability to the biomarkers on the BSW platform surface is demonstrated with the bovine serum albumin (BSA) biolayer coating. APTES is used as the surface modification layer to enable the surface bind with the BSA molecule. The light intensity of out-couple light is increased with the BSA biolayer coating.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
1) Assembly of spatial filtering system In order to evaluate the property of monitoring a large number of sensing areas on a chip, a spatial filtering system with a NIR camera or lens-fiber-coupled photodetector will be built. 2) Design and evaluation of the guided-BSW based optical circuit for high throughput biosensor The guided-BSW sensor is experimentally demonstrated with the gap as sensing area in between two guiding slabs, but the high throughput sensing with multiple sensing area has not realized yet. The high-throughput sensing will be realized by monitoring cascade sensing areas on-chip
