研究実績の概要 |
I attended my first Japanese steampunk event, 入間の乱, from March 12 to 13. As a result of which, I initiated a discussion with Claire Nally, Northumbria University, who in 2019 published one of the first books on steampunk (Steampunk: Gender, Subculture and the Neo-Victorian). I told her about my work on steampunk sculpture, which she had completely overlooked in her book. In turn she recommended that I should take part in the Lincoln Steampunk Festival in Britain, which will take place from August 26 to 29.
My research, delayed by the Covid situation, has begun in earnest. Though I've not done enough to write a full article, the research I've done has been helpful for 'In the Shadow of the Rosetta: The Singapore Stone, Repatriation and Decolonisation', an article I published in June 2021 in AGON.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Due to the Covid situation, I have decided to focus more on the Japanese aspects of steampunk: more on Japanese steampunk events, steampunk sculptors and writers.
These are aims over the short-term: 1. explore the possibility of a research collaboration with Claire Nally in September 2022 2. either create an encyclopedia entry for Wikipedia on Japanese steampunk or at least include a section on Japanese steampunk in the existing Wikipedia entry on steampunk by November 2022 3. complete an academic article on Japanese steampunk by March 2023

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
I was not able to use my funding effectively because of the Covid situation. As it's still difficult to invite foreign experts to Japan, I will use the funding to travel to England instead to attend steampunk-related events and to do research. If the situation improves before the end of the fiscal year, I'd invite Claire Nally (or another expert from overseas) to Nagoya.
