研究実績の概要 |
With the continuance of the Covid19 pandemic this year, both domestic and international travel was restricted. However progress was made by the means of setting up a special Moodle course for the Te Ataarangi (the silent method) Ainu language learning class which completed a full one-year cycle. From wherever they had access to the internet, participants could make use of the computer aided language learning functions on Moodle that were set up by the research group. This course can be accessed and utilized by some 35 users who are dedicated to the continuation and promotion of the Ainu language. Presentations pertaining to the design, set up, management and assessment of the course were given at academic conferences. A new course for this area has been created for the 2022-year cycle which started mid-March and will continue for at least one more year. Project researchers have met on Zoom and discussed other threads of the project and other areas in where Moodle courses with Ainu content may be implemented. Four project members met at the National AInu Museum Language Archive Study group camp in Nibutani and discussed the project with Ainu, Ainu researchers and Ainu museum staff. Contacts were made with previously unknown stakeholders with the potential for collaboration in content creation and/or checking.

理由
Being online again, project members needed to devote extra time for online classes and duties for their respective academic institutions. However, the project commenced with some academic presentations being made at various conferences throughout the year, namely the 2021 Okinawa JALT Summer Symposium, 11th Conference of the Japanese Association of Digital Humanities, and the 47th Annual International Conference of the Japan Association of Language Teaching. These were all conducted online. Four members of the project group also participated in an Ainu language camp investigating AI in recognizing and recreating language from Ainu language archived recordings.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Entering the final year of the project, the Te Ataarangi Ainu language component of the project will continue and its merits will be investigated. The project team also aims to look into new areas of where online Ainu content may benefit society. One new endeavor is a ‘coordinated inquiry’ 総合的な探究 class for a high school, second grade class. This class titled 先住民の文化を学び、共に生きる社会を考える will be carried out predominantly online and will be an opportunity to investigate whether there is value in providing online content in respect to improving awareness and understanding of Ainu.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the Covid19 pandemic, travel was impossible and therefore funds allocated for travel and research trips were cancelled. It is hoped that travel and intended research trips will be possible this year.
