| 研究実績の概要 |
During the last year, I continued my study of the governance of assisted reproductive technology in Japan. This included exploring why pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is so little applied in Japan. As well as characterizing the approach of the government itself, my work also considers the roles of medical practitioners, potential patients, the feminist community and disability groups. I have also expanded the part of my research concerning the future prospects of heritable human genome editing (HHGE).

理由
Although certain aspects of my fieldwork and research dissemination were restricted during the year, I used the time under coronavirus restrictions to focus on consolidating my research on the governance of assisted reproductive technology in Japan. See the articles section of this form for output of mine that was published this year. Several other articles are in the pipeline. I also prepared for an extended research trip to the UK, which will be described in the “future work” section of the form.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
Having examined Japan's hesitancy with regards modern eugenics, I plan to next consider the key question of how the trend towards citizen-driven eugenics will be governed globally and with what input from Japan in particular. I am currently based at the University of Oxford in the UK, where I plan to conduct interviews and discuss with academics the issues associated with modern eugenics. I also plan to conduct interviews with practitioners and policy-makers, for example, in the UK and in Europe more widely.

My main research expenses during the fiscal year in question will be those stemming from conducting my research overseas. In particular, covering fieldwork and other research trips.
