| 研究実績の概要 |
For this fiscal year, the principal investigator carried out research on several aspects of the project. Because this was the first year of a 3-year project, and in order to offset the issues raised by travel-related restrictions caused by the pandemic, the focus was on acquiring and studying some of the documentation relevant to the research. The principal investigator also conducted a number of interviews (again electronically given the travel restrictions) with former members of the United Nations and with diplomats in both Japan and overseas. The first stage of the project also involved looking at the history of the concept of diplomacy, especially as it relates to the Great Power, which involved acquiring and accessing primary materials on past Great Powers (especially France).

理由
The project is progressing as planned, despite the mentioned travel restrictions. Indeed, a monograph related to the project is being prepared, which is expected to present the (partial) results of my research.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
My plan is to complete the current monograph, which is more general in scope and is expected to be published within a year, and then move on to the other (major and more specific) output, that is to say, a second monograph/book specifically on the role of the Great Powers upon the UN Secretariat.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The amount is necessary in order to continue my research, carry out interviews of officials and diplomats, find relevant documentation, and travel to the target countries for fieldwork.
