| 研究実績の概要 |
1. Overall, the first stage of the went well despite the Covid-19 pandemic. During the 2020 academic year, as the P.I, I was able to spend time in New Zealand at the University of Canterbury on sabbatical which made it possible to conduct face-to-face joint research with the UC Community Engagement Hub Director, Dr. Billy O`Steen.
2. During the time spent in New Zealand, I was able to not only observe the service-learning curriculum being conducted at the University of Canterbury, but my sabbatical timeframe allowed me to conduct valuable data-collection research trips to other tertiary institutes around New Zealand where I interviewed key personnel and students engaged in similar programs at the University of Auckland, University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington. As a result of the collaborative research achieved, one guest presentation at the University of Canterbury and two articles were produced.
3. Material collected through document analysis, curriculum observations and interviews have helped to conclude Stage 1 of the project to a satisfactory level in terms of global citizenship, international service-learning and community engagement education from an international standpoint. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the focus on Japanese institutions has not yet been fully concluded. This will be continued in the 2021 academic year. Once the domestic data has been collected, work on the service learning online resource center will start once data analysis has been completed.

理由
The project is proceeding well in accordance with the research plan schedule. I have completed the majority of the initial literature review and overseas data collection. This means that the project can move into Stage II without much delay. As mentioned in the overview, I will continue collect data from with Japan via visits, online meetings with cooperating institutions such as the University of Fukushima. In Stage II, I will continue to review current literature to keep up with current trends in the fields of Global Citizenship studies and Service-Learning.

In the 2021 academic year, Stage II will seek to achieve the following objectives:
(1) continued review of current literature
(2) follow-up data collection trips both domestically (University of Fukushima)and internationally (University of Canterbury).
(3) Guest lecture, joint research and final-year symposium planning visit by Dr. Billy O'Steen from the University of Canterbury.
(4) pilot collaborative service-learning program design between Nanzan University, University of Fukushima and University of Canterbury.
(5) Data analysis and material creation for the service learning resource online center.
