研究実績の概要 |
1. The second stage of the project did not goes as originally planned due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic which saw a continued closure of the borders to New Zealand and other countries. As a result, all of the originally planned overseas research field trips for data collection and for research presentations had to be postponed. 2. Contact via regular online discussion sessions and research focus-group sessions with Dr. Billy O'Steen (UC Community Engagement Hub Director, University of Canterbury, New Zealand) and participation in other service-learning personnel meant that on-going research was possible in a limited capacity. 3. Domestic field-trips were made possible to the Universities of Fukushima and Sendai to conduct onsite observations of domestic-run programs. For this I was able to obtain an in-house Nanzan University research grant which meant that the Kaken-hi grant did not need to be used. To that end, I am planning to utilise the unused Kaken-hi funds this year with the view of extending the grant by one-year so that the original research plan can be achieved in 2022 and 2023. 4. Material collected via online discussions, domestic visits and a thorough review of the up-to-date literature has been analysed and used to produce two pieces of research output (a book chapter and a journal article) in the 2021 academic year.

理由
As explained above, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of mobility restrictions regarding fieldwork activities and face-to-face interaction with the overseas institutions (University of Canterbury etc.) has meant that the overall plan execution has been delayed several months. However, with the loosening of restrictions from this academic year onward, I see the possibility of executing the plan successfully within four years (meaning a one-year extension) to be very high. I will continue to collect data from within Japan as well as in New Zealand via visits, online meetings with cooperating institutions such as the University of Fukushima and the University of Canterbury. I will also continue to review current literature to keep up with current trends in the fields of Global Citizenship studies and Service-Learning.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the 2022 academic year, I will proceed with the delayed Stage II activities and seek to achieve the following objectives: (1) continued review of current literature (2) follow-up data collection trips both domestically (University of Fukushima)and internationally (University of Canterbury). (3) Guest lecture, joint research and final-year symposium planning visit by Dr. Billy O'Steen from the University of Canterbury. (4) Data analysis and material creation for the service learning resource online center.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the delays as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions in 2021, I have only used part of the 2021 portion for literature purchases. The remaining amount will be used in 2022 to proceed with the on-going Stage II portion with a view to extend the grant for one year to ensure the original plan is achieved.
