研究実績の概要 |
The present research originally proposed a study of triple-phase contact line (TPCL) dynamics in pool boiling. Aided by Deep Learning technology, the research aims to elucidate TPCL behavior under the influences of contrasting surface topography and wettability, which leads ultimately to enhanced surface design for low-pressure boiling. During the past FY [2020-2021], I worked with Prof. Yasuyuki Takata of Kyushu University to study low-pressure boiling on hybrid surfaces. The collaboration yielded a discovery of further enhancement of boiling heat transfer due to stronger vapor trapping inside hydrophobic-coated dimple cavities. The results provided important new data on TPCL dynamics under the influences of wettability patterning and structural modifications.

理由
The progress of the research project is slightly delayed due to a combination of Covid-pandemic and my moving to the University of Tsukuba in March, 2020. It took somewhat longer than expected to set up a proper research environment that is needed to carry out visualization study and deep-learning-based analysis of triple phase contact line dynamics.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In FY[2021-2022], visualization of bubble behavior in low-pressure boiling: to provide direct observations of contrasting contact-line dynamics under the influences of surface wettabilities and textures;
In FY[2022-2023], deep learning-based analysis of the derived visitation data and the corresponding heat transfer performance: to provide new insights with regard to optimization of surface design for low-pressure boiling that takes advantage of heterogeneous surface texture and wettability patterns
