研究実績の概要 |
In the second year of this project, we have extended the proposed cyber-physical framework beyond the intersection's traffic by starting international collaborations with multiple universities. Specifically, addressing the traffic problems of the traditional roundabout, we developed a bi-level coordination framework for smooth flows of the connected automated vehicles through successive optimization techniques. This work was done with the collaboration of Monash University. We also developed an optimal overtaking scheme for the automated vehicles and evaluated it in a realistic traffic scenario, modeling the road beside Gunma University. The most significant development is the look-ahead driving schemes that efficiently drive automated vehicles while enhancing other vehicles' performances and overall road capacity. Specifically, this breakthrough real-time implementable driving technology does not require computationally demanding nonlinear optimization but provides comparable traffic performance improvements. Besides these key developments, we extended the original multi-agent-based broadcast control algorithm, nature-inspired road network design scheme, cloud-based ridesharing scheme, and a lane change model of the vehicles. In summary, we have published eight journal papers, and some of them have high impact factors. In addition, the key development is presented in an international workshop and several international conferences.

理由
The project started with a good preliminary study and immediately yielded outcomes in the first year. Now, in the second year, the PI with a group of students is working at Gunma University to identify other potential cyber-physical frameworks and possible solutions to the traffic problems. Furthermore, several international collaborators from two universities are also working with various conceptual ideas under the supervision of the PI. These efforts result in more smooth progress than the initial plan.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
With excellent progress far beyond expectations, we would like to concentrate on the so far proposed cyber-physical traffic control networks. Firstly, we would like to focus on their implementation potential in terms of computation time, data volume, and required could or edge facilities. The developed framework would be fine-tuned further with more efficient optimal coordination algorithms based on such assessments. Specifically, we would like to investigate the spontaneous cooperating techniques that more robustly facilitate flexible operation for heterogeneous traffic. Secondly, cooperative control of automated vehicles using connected vehicle information will be developed to enhance eco-driving with AI-based edge intelligence. Such cooperation will be extended beyond the road's driving time, e.g., parking facilities, and short-term travel planning, which eventually enhances the energy sustainability of a future city. Finally, in this last year of the project, we need to integrate the developed schemes for a comprehensive solution to the traffic problems and come up with further remaining issues toward their realization and plan for the future research project.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to pandemic, the intention for attending international conference and collaboration meeting are changed. Although some amount remains, it was used for publication fees, and a part is kept unused for the next year.
