研究実績の概要 |
During the second year, we conducted dietary assessments in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients on treatment with targeted therapies using the self-administered brief dietary history questionnaire and a detailed fish frequency questionnaire. Two hundred and eighty patients (218 Japanese, 62 Spanish) returned the questionnaires. Patients' demographic, clinical and laboratory information were collected and entered into the database. Dietary data were tabulated and analysed. A preliminary analysis of Japanese patients for whom all clinical/laboratory and dietary data were available showed that intake of fish rich in n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was associated with a good response to treatment, suggesting that fish consumption may have some beneficial effects on RA treatment.

理由
We have completed dietary assessments in Japanese RA patients and are currently collecting patients' demographic, clinical and laboratory data. We have conducted a preliminary analysis of the effect of fish intake on the response to targeted therapy in the Japanese RA cohort and an abstract has been prepared and submitted to the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 2022. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the inclusion of patients in the Spanish cohort could not be completed as planned. We are still conducting the inclusion and dietary assessment of the Spanish RA patients, as well as the collection of clinical, laboratory and patient demographic data.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the third year, we will continue the inclusion of patients in the Spanish cohort to reach the estimated number. We will also complete the collection of demographic and clinical data in the two cohorts and the analysis of dietary data in the Spanish cohort. All data from the two cohorts will be entered into the database and analysed. The results obtained in this research will be presented at national and international conferences and prepared for publication in academic journals. We will also work on the preparation of the prospective phase of the study in RA patients starting a new targeted therapy. Due to delays in obtaining the results of the retrospective study, we have not been able to launch it.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Due to the situation created by the coronavirus 19 pandemic we have not been able to make use of the travel expenses that were important in this research to develop the study with our Spanish collaborators. We hope that the situation will improve and that we will be able to use the money for travel expenses and conference attendance as well as for the analysis of the data from the food questionnaires.
