研究実績の概要 |
Research was delayed due to the coronavirus. Two new studies were initialized during this time. The first study examines a potential relationship between gender and the effects of predictability in Japanese speakers. The second study is an iconicity study examining the effects of the predictability of sounds and their sound symbolic relationships. These studies have used a new approach for my research where I analyze existing data instead of running my psycholinguistic experiments. For example, the study examining gender and predictability uses data from the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese, rather than data obtained from experiments. I will continue with my new approach until the pandemic issue either is resolved or calms down to a point where I am confident that I can run the experiments in a reasonably safe manner.

理由
Due to the Coronavirus, my original research was unable to begin as planned. As such, I modified my approach to conducting research by analyzing existing data, rather than running in-person experiments. I have adopted this new approach because I am concerned about running perception experiments in person due to the pandemic. This approach has meant that the topic has changed slightly but the general area of investigation remains the same.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Future work will focus more on my original research which tests for the effects of predictability on speech perception. I have designed a number of experiments which will be conducted as soon as it is reasonably safe to do so.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In my initial plan, the bulk of my research grant was dedicated to paying participants for participating in experiments. Due to the coronavirus, I have been unable to conduct these experiments, hence, there is a surplus of 586,276 yen in FY2020. This money will go towards paying participants once it is safe again to run the experiments.
