| 研究実績の概要 |
A comparison of the two historical sound change processes in Mandarin, diphthongization and palatalization, has revealed that high-frequency words lead sound change. This result argues against the claim in previous studies that low-frequency words lead sound change. It also argues against the claim that no factor is involved in sound change.
By focusing on these historical sound change processes in Mandarin, I have issued two papers in the past two years. One of them has been accepted by Acta Linguistica Academica, a Scopus-indexed journal. In addition, I have three papers under review and am working on one new paper.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
I will model the pattern of the vowel shift by a comparison of the palatalization in Chinese, the Middle Chinese Great Vowel Shift, and the Great Vowel Shift in Middle English, and make final conclusions.
