研究実績の概要 |
This year I have been able to make archival research trips within Japan and purchase important source materials. I have also been able to dedicate sufficient time to analyze these materials and present the findings at relevant international academic conferences (online). These activities are expected to continue into the project's final year. I have seen 4 articles published (2 of which are accepted and forthcoming) on this project in the last financial year.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
The pandemic has continued to delay the project, but utilizing online materials and having made a few research trips to acquire archival materials within Japan there has been significant progress this year. The publication of the research results of this project in particular has progressed in this year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the final year of this project I hope to complete a further 2 articles from this project and submit them to leading journals. I will also present some of the findings of this research project at the World Economic History Congress in the summer 2022 and the Business History Conference in April 2022.
Beyond the funding period I hope to complete a book project which puts together all the findings of this project and provides a comprehensive account of Hakodate's integration with the world economy in the mid-to-late 19th century, this will be the first such work in English. In order to complete this I will spend the remainder of research time examining the links Hakodate had with peripheral areas of Hokkaido and other ports in Northern Japan. This will require archival research in Hokkaido in particular.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In the next financial year expenses will be incurred for research trips to Hakodate and other locations in Hokkaido, as well as other former treaty ports. There will be some expenses for photocopying of materials and for attending international conferences (online) to report the results of research.
