| 研究実績の概要 |
This study seeks to explore the significance of practicing participatory filmmaking as a pedagogy for advancing active learning and global competence in the university classroom. The impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic has been immense in pursuing this research project. In the same way as last year, the travel restrictions were in effect, and my data collection plan needed to be changed during FY2021. Instead of conducting fieldwork abroad, I took part in a conference and presented the film as well as the findings resulting from participatory filmmaking in the previous year. It provided me with a valuable opportunity to pay attention to the importance of collaborative learning during the pandemic. Accordingly, this led to a further collaboration with students in Kumamoto, and a short film was newly created.

理由
In FY2021, my plan of conducting fieldwork and collecting data overseas was hindered because of the continuing rage of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. Nevertheless, the insight gained last year reinforced my conceptual and practical scope for this study. I carried out participatory filmmaking in Kumamoto, and a short film was created in January 2022. In addition, I attended a conference and presented the pedagogical possibilities of practicing online participatory filmmaking in the pandemic.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
In FY2022, to investigate the potential of participatory filmmaking in advancing active learning and global competence, I will collect data through interviews, surveys, participant observation, and document analysis both in and outside Japan once the travel restrictions are lifted. Moreover, I will take part in international conferences to present the produced film and gain feedback. I will also continue to collaborate with students in Kumamoto for filmmaking.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The persistent COVID-19 global pandemic interfered with my plan of doing fieldwork and collecting data abroad during FY2021. Therefore, the saved amount will be applied as travel expenses to carry out interviews in Europe when the travel restrictions are eased.
