研究実績の概要 |
The research aims at providing a practical pedagogy for pre-service teachers to achieve equality of education in culturally and linguistically diverse schools in Japan. As a concrete outcome, teaching material has been developed for direct use in teacher training. This teaching material is based on a specific learning approach developed by an international educational network called Communities Engaging with Difference and Religion - CEDAR. The researcher has participated in CEDAR programs on several occasions. Throughout AY2021, I tested several CEDAR activities in the university teacher training courses. The results were analyzed and compared to previously tested activities on religious self-awareness for acknowledging differences. In collaboration with CEDAR's director and colleagues at Hiroshima University, we have adjusted the activities to the Japanese social context. In addition, it was examined how interacting with Japanese society's differences relates to local perceptions of belonging and community (Delakorda Kawashima 2022).

理由
During the AY2001, most courses in higher education continued online due to the Coronavirus. In the primary and secondary education, the access to conducting face-to-face class activities was limited. Therefore, less data from testing the activities designed for different educational levels was obtained than expected.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
To achieve the aims of this research, I will conduct workshops to identify the primary learning outcomes of the activities and analyze them. Based on the results, and in collaboration with the international CEDAR fellows and other colleagues at Hiroshima University, we plan to compile an open-access workbook with efficient, practical pedagogy and facilitate its introduction to Japanese public schools.
