In order to illustrate the self-assembly of patchy particles, a model estimating the pairwise interaction of different types of patchy particle are proposed. The Brownian dynamics simulation of the colloidal patchy particles on either two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and curved surface is constructed. We have applied the model above to investigate the effect of curvature on the assembly of patchy particle. This study particularly deals with the relation between patchy particle design, the self-assembled structure, and the curved surface on which the particles are confined to. It is known that a perfect lattice is possible to obtain on a flat space but impossible on a curved surface. Here we consider the dipole patchy particles which are described by spherical harmonic Y10 and confined to a spherical surface, then investigate the assembled structure, how and why topological defects appear. We have found interesting results on controlling the defect. To our knowledge, this is a pioneer research that introduce topological defects on a sphere by the self-assembly of patchy particles.
