研究実績の概要 |
This project investigated the role of galactic structure in determining how a galaxy can form stars from its gas within. Simulations were performed of three nearby spiral galaxies and were found to be remarkably similar in their evolution, despite their different rotational rates and distribution of stars and dark matter. Some smaller differences were found though, such as how rapidly gas is depleted with radius, which will be the subject of a number of in papers (in preparation). These galaxies are the first building blocks of the larger BESPOKE (Better Extragalactic Simulation Physics on Known Examples) international collaborative project, which will explore a wider range of targets and breadth of physics. The initial conditions will also be made publicly available in the near future for the use of other researchers. Unfortunately the principal investigator moved to an institute overseas so only the first year of work out of the planned three was conducted, but they will pick up this work upon relocation with continued collaboration with researchers in Japan and overseas.
