研究実績の概要 |
In this fiscal year, we reported that the thermoelectric (TE) performance is enhanced by the unique density of states of a topological type-II nodal-line semimetal (NLS). We found that the Seebeck coefficient of the type-II NLS at the nodal-line region can be higher than the upper limit of the metal. On the other hand, the linear band of the type-II NLS also contributes to high electrical conductivity. Therefore, the type-II NLS shows a high-performance TE material among metals and semimetals, which are traditionally considered inadequate TE materials compared to semiconductors. We also reported other energy topics, such as the low-power consumption device based on the periodically doped graphene nanoribbon or the optical properties of two-dimensional materials.

理由
Our progress is going on as planned, in which we have focused on the thermoelectricity of the topological semimetals for this fiscal year. There are two published papers on thermoelectricity. On the other hand, we also studied other energy topics for the two-dimensional materials, in which four related papers have been published.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the next fiscal year, we will study the generation of a transverse heat current upon applying an electric field in the presence of a magnetic field, so-called the thermoelectric Hall effect. Although thermoelectricity is promising for the Internet of Things (IoT) device by generating electricity from waste heat, room-temperature thermoelectricity has been a long-standing challenge to obtain high energy conversion efficiency. The thermoelectric Hall effect might offer a new avenue to obtaining high thermoelectric efficiency.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In this fiscal year, some international conferences have been still canceled under the influence of Covid-19. Therefore, the travel expenses did not use. The incurring amount in the next fiscal year will be used to buy the workstation for calculations.
